The Martingale System is perhaps the most popular system employed by players trying to beat the casino. See detailed description below.
We tested this system out at Platinum Play where you’ll get 1500 free bets to play around risk free:
You place bets on 1:1 money positions with a near 50% chance to win. For example, red/black or odd/even or 1-18/19-36.
Decide the unit that you want to bet, eg $1 or $2. Say you are betting on the roulette table with $1 units: on your first bet, you would make a $1 bet.
If you win the bet, put the same wager down, always your starting unit.
If you lose the bet, you double your bet on the next round, so in the example above you would bet $2, and then $4 and then $8 etc. If you hit a losing streak or a run of losses, you double up your bet on the next round.
The Martingale system theory states that you will win at some point and if you have doubled up your wager amounts, you will invariably cover your losses. Your last bet will recoup all of your losses.
If you win after the first roulette bet, you double your money. If you hit a winning streak, you will accelerate your winnings.
BUT (there’s always a but- did you think the casinos were mad?!)
There are 2 downsides here, although this can be a useful method to remain methodical and try to hit a winning streak.
The 1st pitfall is that the bet is not a pure 50% even money bet, because there is a 0 pocket on the wheel in European roulette, (and also a 00 on American).
[ TIP: the only sure fire method of increasing your edge in online roulette is ALWAYS play European Roulette, never American Roulette, as European Online Roulette only has one 0 pocket, meaning your odds on so called even money bets (red/black, odd/even etc) are superior.]
The second pitfall in the Martingale Strategy , is that there is no such thing as an infinite betting limit. All casinos have an upper limit, so if you hit a prolonged losing streak (say B, B, B, B, B when you have bet on red) you will get to a stage when you are unable to double up on your bet to cover your loss. The tip here is to set your initial unit bet at a low enough level that affords you a decent betting run, at least 5.
Our tip- treat with care. Better to use this when you are up and playing with the casino’s money, and don’t get greedy.
